Garbage subsidizes quality
It's not technically a market failure. But it is if you like good stuff.
Television is a market failure if you like quality entertainment. It's the cheaply made trash that provides enough excess that some people can sneak through a good show with long term potential to be remembered. Which sounds like it's an endorsement for good shows. But as my accounting teacher said one of the basic fundamentals you learn in biz school is just money now is better than money later.
Which is why no one watched “Andor” when it came out. But I keep seeing it on trending now due to a slow build of fans evidently going to war with the fans of the new Disney+ series “Ashoka”(?). Which evidently the defense of it seems to be that they don't care that it's bad?
But this is all to say that bundles will probably allow people with taste to sneak through well made shows and movies. That would otherwise be not made it they were judged by an algorithm whose suggestions are based on internet chatter.
